Friends of Africa (FOA) has a primary objective is to significantly reduce deaths from cervical and breast cancer by enhancing access to early detection and treatment services. We achieve this through targeted knowledge transfer, robust infrastructure development, and cutting-edge implementation science research. By equipping healthcare professionals and communities with the necessary tools and information, we aim to create sustainable healthcare systems that prioritize preventative care and effective treatment, ultimately saving lives and improving health outcomes for vulnerable populations worldwide.l
The Women’s Oncology Collective for Africa (WOCA), supported by Friends of Africa, addresses the unique challenges women face with cancer in Africa. Knowledge and skill transfer through WOCA is achieved through a dynamic and immersive mentoring process involving both bedside and surgical guidance. This initiative is led by a dedicated team composed of experienced U.S. and Zambian gynecologic and breast oncologists, alongside Zambian cervical cancer prevention nurse-specialists. Their collaborative approach ensures the sharing of expertise in a supportive environment, fostering the development of critical skills. To enhance the educational experience, low-cost medical and telecommunications technologies are integrated into the training, making high-quality education accessible and effective for healthcare professionals across the globe. This commitment not only strengthens local capacities but also contributes to global health improvements in the fight against cancer.
